Exercise Physiology and medicare rebates

Did you know you could access Exercise Physiology sessions through Medicare? If you’ve been diagnosed with a chronic condition, tailored support may be just a GP referral away. Learn how Medicare rebates work and how an Exercise Physiologist can help you move and feel better.

Exercise Physiology and Medicare

Medicare-subsidised Exercise Physiology appointments are available for eligible individuals through the Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan. This rebate program supports services from various allied health professionals, including Accredited Exercise Physiologists. To access these services, a patient must be referred by their GP or a medical practitioner, and the services must be deemed beneficial for their condition. Medicare provides 5 subsidised sessions per calendar year, shared across all eligible allied health services.

Medicare Rebate for Exercise Physiologist

If you're living with a chronic condition, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate to see an Exercise Physiologist.

Exercise Physiologists are health professionals who prescribe tailored, effective exercise programs for people living with chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, cancer, and other chronic health conditions.

These sessions can help you:

  • Increase your strength and fitness
  • Improve bone & heart health
  • Better manage your condition
  • Improve your energy and overall well-being
  • Overcome any barriers or challenges and find a starting point for movement
