Group Classes

Benefits of regular exercise for chronic conditions:

General

In the group classes, the client is shown safe ways to exercise and are given tailored programs to complete at home. Clients are also taken through educational topics on ways to restore quality of life, to improve functional capacity, lead a normal life and prevent recurrence of the event. The classes are a mixture of resistance type exercises, joint mobility & cardiovascular type exercises.

Diabetes/Cardiac/Weight management

Regular exercise can help diabetics reduce and manage their blood sugar levels, help cardiac clients who have survived an acute event or suffer from chronic heart disease, to lead a normal life and help overweight clients reduce their risk of metabolic syndrome- high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waist and abnormal cholesterol levels. The condition increases the risk of diabetes, stroke and heart disease. 

Arthritis/Osteoporosis

A healthy Lifestyle is important for the development and maintenance of bones. Doing regular exercise and eating healthy will help with skeletal integrity, reduction of falls risk and prevent potential bone fractures. 

Hydrotherapy Group Classes

Hydrotherapy can help improve muscle imbalances, pain management, physical function, well-being and mood, mobility and balance, strength and core stability, fitness and reconditioning. It takes weight off joints and allows better range of motion of limbs. This class is designed to help clients with any:

  • Pre-op/post-op joint replacement (Hip/Knee)
  • Arthritis management (rheumatological/Osteo)
  • Pregnancy
  • Any type of muscular pain (shoulder, back, hip , knee etc..)

Lower Back/ Core/ Prostate

Having weak core muscles can impact on how well your legs, torso and arms function. A strong core enhances balance and stability. The core activates with most movements during your daily activity. A strong core is very beneficial if suffering from conditions such as:

  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Spinal stenosis
  • Disc problems (bulging, degeneration, prolapse, extrusion and sequestration)
  • Neural impingement
  • Sacroiliac joint strains
  • Weak glutes
  • Chronic Back pain
  • Weak Pelvic floor muscles (Incontinence)
  • Pre/Post Prostate surgery
  • Healthy individuals who play any type of rotational sport (tennis, golf, running, swimming and many other athletic activities)

Cancer

During initial diagnosis, treatment period and post treatment period. Exercise prescription could have very positive benefits for improving surgical outcomes, reducing symptom experience, managing side effects of radiation and chemotherapy, improving psychological health, maintaining physical function, and reducing fat gain and muscle and bone loss. 

Respiratory

There are many physiological and psychological benefits to exercise for clients with respiratory issues. The Major benefits include increased physical capacity, decreased anxiety about breathlessness, greater independence in daily activities, reduced fatigue and improved quality of life.

  • How Many Participants are in each group? +

    Participants: 4-8

  • What to bring and wear? +

    Bring water bottle, towel and any relevant medication. Wear closed in shoes and comfortable clothing.

  • What are the costs? +

    Class Pricing:

    • $20 ($15 for pensioners) per week, for one session a week
    • $35 ($30 for pensioners) per week, for 2 sessions a week

    Hydrotherapy entry fee: $5 entry for sessions

    Packages:

    • 10 Sessions- Pay up front: $180 (Pensioner $140)
    • 20 Sessions- Pay up front: $350 (Pensioner $280)
  • Does my Health fund cover the fee? +

    If you are with a private Health fund, you can claim it back depending on your type of cover.

  • Will I need an initial consult if I haven’t been to MyEP before? +

    If you haven’t come through a Medicare scheme already, then yes, an initial consult will be required, this will require a physical assessment. Cost is $100 (pensioners $80).
